Setting Your Intention
Each Spirit Doll has its own personality and, I believe, “spirit”. Before starting each doll, I like to do a little meditation on what emotion, theme or wish I have for it.
Perhaps this doll will represent healing either on a physical level or emotional. Or
perhaps forgiveness, prosperity, abundance, compassion, happiness, joy, peace of
mind or love. In a way - creating your own art doll is a form of art therapy.
This short video and PDF is a guide on how to set your intention. This is not mandatory to create your doll and you may skip this section as it is not required.
Lecture # - How to Select Sticks and Branches for Your Spirit Doll

Since recording this class several years ago, I have moved back to Salem MA surrounded by beaches and sea. My daily visits to the beach have inspired me to use seashells, driftwood, crab & lobster shells, sea glass and other sea treasures in my art.
Here are a few ideas that I hope inspire your creations.
Please note we have changed the name of our business from Planet Calamari to Practical Magic Salem.
Thank you

Get Wired! Learn how to crochet with wire was filmed in October 2013. It was the first video I had ever recorded so it is a tad wonky and unprofessional. However, it will teach you the basic concepts of how to crochet with wire, create some jewelry and embellish your work. Get Wired! The Zen of Crocheting With Wire

This class may be considered a form of art therapy. It invites the student to think outside the box, use their imagination and have fun. There are no right or wrong ways to make your art doll.
I began creating Spirit Dolls and art as part of a healing process for both physical and emotional reasons. These dolls have played an important role in my life. May this class provide the tools to create some comfort and joy as you make your own doll.
Dolls have traditionally been used in magic and healing rituals, as well as toys throughout the world since the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Greece and Rome. Early dolls were handcrafted from sticks, wood, stone, clay and fabric.
