In this video, child and adolescent Dr. James Sutton offers insights into characteristics of ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder; a condition of childhood and adolescence) as they present in adults. Insights and practical approaches to intervention are discussed.
ODD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, is a diagnostic condition applicable only to children and adolescents. Plenty of folks apply it to adults, however, especially when similar behaviors of defiance, noncompliance, and all-out difficulty are discussed. In fact, when Dr. Sutton addressed these behaviors in adults in his blog, It's About Them, that one post drew a ton of comments, many of them relating the painful experiences of living and working with an adult with ODD-like characteristics. Seeing there was quite a lot of interest in the topic, he put together this single-lecture course on the subject. It is intended to share perspectives, insights and practical interventions into a behavioral trait that continues to be very difficult to manage.
